August 21, 2013Updated Aug 21, 2013 at 11:43 PM EDTBuffalo- It’s been in Buffalo since 1886, but now more than a century later the Diocese of Buffalo plans to demolish Saint Ann’s Church on Broadway Avenue.

With severe damage to the interior and the exterior which would rack up an estimated 8 to 12 million dollars in renovations, the Bishop has decided to proceed with plans to demolish the structure.

According to Sister Donna Anthony, the last mass inside the church was Sunday. The Saint Ann’s church members have been holding mass inside the renovated cafeteria of the school, but has since been asked by the Bishop to cease that activity.

Tonight, church members, the community and preservation activists gathered to discuss and generate possible alternative solutions to keep the church standing.

While no official suggestion has been made, people at the meeting are hopeful they will change the diocese’s mind.
