YNN Buffalo: Community and preservationists hold meeting to save St. Ann Church Play now
BUFFALO, N.Y. — Less than a week after the Diocese of Buffalo announced plans to demolish a church on Buffalo’s east side, community members came together to figure out how to save the structure.
Preservation Buffalo Niagara held a meeting to discuss how to save St. Ann Church Wednesday night.
St. Ann’s closed its doors nearly a year and a half ago due to safety issues with the building’s exterior. Repairs to the 127-year-old church were estimated to cost between $8 million and $16 million.
Preservation advocates are determined to find an alternative to destroying a neighborhood icon.
“This tells us who we were, maybe explains a little bit about who we are, where we are and when we lose that it’s gone,” said Martin Ederer, co-chair of the Revitalization Committee.
